the ripple effect

  • Small Works Gallery 10-12 Commercial Road Murwillumbah, NSW, 2484 Australia (map)

Solo Exhibition of abstract nature photography and mixed media works by Andia Cally.

“Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects”. Dalai Lama

This exhibition explores the interconnection between all things and the ripple effects that our thoughts, words and deeds have on the world around us.

When we acknowledge the ripple effects from everything we think, do and say; we become more connected, cooperative and accountable with ourselves and the world around us.

In the Lakota tradition, when somebody is ill, the whole community gathers to say, "Thank you, your illness is manifesting the dysfunction of our community, and your healing is our healing because you're not separate from us."

This integrated and holistic thinking permeates a lot of Indigenous cultures and is often reflected in their creation stories, their language, their relationship with food and their deep connection to country. They view the living world as part of their family, rather than an inanimate ‘it’.

In separating ourselves from others, our environment and the elements we become individually insignificant, seeing ourselves as a mere drop of water, rather than an integral part of a mighty ocean.

Individually and collectively, we create the ripple effect.
